Any of these is enough to start. You do not need to know which part it is — working that out is the job.
Before we quote you a part
Brake pads are a straightforward part once we know which end of the car and how much material is left. What is not straightforward is guessing that from a description.
We measure the pads and the rotors on the vehicle. Grinding usually means the rotor is in it too, and quoting pads alone would be a number you could not rely on.
This is not a policy someone can waive on a busy morning. It is the diagnostic gate in the engine, and it reads every message you send us — insisting does not move it.
The questions we'll ask you
Every one of these exists because getting it wrong means the part bolts on and the problem comes back. They take you ten seconds and save you a day.
Is it the front brakes or the rear?
Front and rear pads are entirely different parts. Getting this wrong wastes a whole day — it is the most common fitment trap in the whole catalog.
Do you know the payload or brake package?
Several trucks and SUVs shipped two rotor diameters in the same model year. The wrong diameter will not go on the caliper. If you do not know, we measure the rotor before ordering.
How long has it been making the noise?
A squeal caught early is pads. A grind ignored for a month is usually pads and rotors, and sometimes a caliper. Telling us honestly gets you a quote that holds.

Estimates are given as a range rather than a fixed figure until a licensed labor-time guide is in place. We would rather say that plainly than quote a firm number the shop cannot stand behind.

Brakes making noise — straight answers
Do I need rotors too, or just pads?
That depends on thickness and runout, both of which are measurable. We measure them rather than upselling on principle — and if the cheaper option is genuinely the right one, the estimate recommends the cheaper option and says so.
Why is grinding urgent?
Grinding usually means the friction material is gone and metal is contacting the rotor. Every stop from that point makes the repair larger, and stopping distance is already worse than it was.
Can you do it the same day?
Frequently, yes, if the correct parts are on a shelf nearby. Availability sits next to price on every option we show you, so a four-hour part and a Thursday part are never confused.
What if I only want the minimum done?
Then we tell you what the minimum is and what it does not cover. We will decline to call something safe if it is not, but the decision about your money is yours.
